About hypnosis
Hypnosis is a naturally induced state of relaxed concentration - a state of mind and body in which we communicate suggestions to our subconscious mind. This part of our mind influences what we think, how we feel and the choices we make. It can actually control pain.
There is no magic to achieving success with self-hypnosis. Almost anyone who chooses to can reach deep relaxation and redirected focus.
Unfortunately, stage and television hypnosis has given many people a very negative and mistaken view of hypnotherapy in general. I'm sure you will have seen this type of programme on TV.
When asked about hypnosis most people tend to think of a stage hypnotist making people bark like a dog, talk in a ridiculous voice or believe they’re naked in public. Not a very appealing idea for most people, I’m sure you’ll agree.
These are 'party tricks’, which as a member of the HypnoBirthing® Institute I would never be associated with. You have nothing to fear
Perhaps you’re simply afraid of hypnosis? Worried you’ll be in a trance, and out of control?
Maybe you’re scared you’ll feel compelled to blurt out some deep, dark secret? Or be made to do something you don’t want to?
This is, quite simply, not possible. Hypnosis cannot override your basic instincts, and no hypnotherapist can make you do anything you really don’t want to.
When having your baby with HypnoBirthing® , what you will experience is similar to the day dreaming or focusing that occurs when you are engrossed in a book or staring at a fire. You will be conversant and in good spirits- totally relaxed. You will be aware of your bodys' contractions but will be able to determine the extent to which you feel the surge. You will experience your babys' birth in an atmosphere of calm and relaxation, without the fear and tension that cause pain. Your bodys' natural anaesthesia (endorphins) will replace the stress hormones that create pain.
HYPNOSIS IS JUST A STATE OF RELAXED CONCENTRATION, NOTHING MORE
